Project Service to Others (Project - STO) is a Provincial RTO/ERO program that provides grants to local RTO/ERO Districts for initiatives that support the concept of "Service to Others". The intent of Project - STO is to raise the profile of retired teachers by visibly demonstrating that retired teachers are actively involved in community projects. Information on the Project - STO application process and the application forms are available on the Provincial RTO/ERO website.
Interested local organizations wishing to apply for a grant are invited to submit a grant request by email or mail to our president Gord Miall, 870 Patrice Drive, Windsor, ON N8S 2R8, by Feb. 1, 2011. The District 7 Executive will review the applications received and select one of the applications to be submitted to Provincial for review and possible funding. Funded applications will be announced after May 1, 2011.
In both 2006 and 2007 our District 7 was fortunate to receive two outstanding Project STO grants from Toronto. Special thanks to the Provincial Project - Service to Others Committee Members for their consideration of our local programs. (Click on the pictures below to enlarge.)
Our 2006 recipient, the Art Gallery of Windsor ($3,450.00) completed their student outreach program as of June 2007. A total of seventeen local schools were involved with the African artist, Willie Bester Showcase. Our students and teachers visiting the gallery received booklet information, a gallery tour, hands-on interactive workshops with follow-up and display of colourful “assemblages” in relief.
Our 2007 recipient, our local Windsor Symphony Orchestra, received $3,250.00 for a special Fall musical Program by Director of Education, Vonnie Prime.
Past RTO/ERO Project STO Grants have been given to non-profit agencies: Children's Rehabilitation Centre, North American Black Historical Museum, and Children's Safety Village.
